Community School Initiative

Community schools are designed to serve as hubs that address inequities and break cycles of poverty. This is accomplished through collaborative leadership that values students, staff, families, and the wider community as essential partners, ensuring that all are seen, valued, and supported.

In 2023, Covina Valley Unified School District (Covina Valley USD) established Covina High School as a community school hub.

Covina High School is supported by a strong partnership between Covina Valley USD, the Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE), and various community-based organizations, including the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health, and the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence. This collaboration has enriched the lives of (School Name) students and their families.

Covina High School is committed to strengthening the school community to foster a more equitable and socially just system where all students, families, and staff are empowered and able to thrive. This community school initiative aligns with Covina-Valley USD's mission to be a nationally recognized, innovative school district dedicated to providing the programs, skills, and knowledge that support the development of the whole child within a safe and healthy learning environment.

This mission ensures that every student can confidently and effectively communicate reasoning, collaborate with others, demonstrate critical thinking skills, and creatively solve problems to succeed in college, their future careers, and in life.
